Travel in London

Travel
London Underground runs from around 6am until midnight and is the easiest way to get about, unless you have a wheelchair or pushchair.

London buses are not as scary as you may imagine, are frequent and, other than the old style Routemasters, they generally have disabled and pushchair access. However on many routes in Central London, including on the new BendyBuses, you must pay in advance rather than on the bus, so check the information at your stop!

Taxis (black cabs) are good for short journeys where your destination is not right next to a tube station, or where several of you are splitting the cost, but if they get stuck in traffic the charges mount up, and tube is often quicker!

There are also river bus services.

You can use a Travelcard on buses and tubes, and also use it to get a reduction on river bus fares, for travel on Tramlink and on many National Rail services within London.

At Christmas, there are no tube services and extremely limited bus services. Taxis cost far more and need to be booked in advance.
