Recipe - Cocktails
My own versions of some popular cocktails.

When using lemonade as a mixer, try Tesco's own - it's not too sweet or invasive a flavour, and works well.

Margarita
For a glass:
  • 3 parts tequila
  • 2 parts freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 part triple sec
  • Few rocks of salt
If you're making a jug for a summer party, you can make a pseudo-margarita with 1 part lemonade to one part tequila, add a dash of cointreau or another fruit liqueur (or if desparate, use rum!) and a pinch of rock salt.

Pimms
I love my Pimms strong, but for a jug you would prefer to use 2 or 3 parts lemonade to 1 part Pimms.

Traditionally, you should add ice, strawberry, cucumber and borage. However, any fruit will do, and mint will do in place of borage, but be sure to add cucumber.

Sangria
  • 3 parts red wine - cheap spanish wine such as Marquis de Tena (£2) is fine
  • 2 parts orange juice, preferably freshly squeezed with "bits"
  • 1 part white rum
Stick it all in a jug with ice and fruit. You can use any fruit - apples and peaches are nice as a change to orange and lemon.

Sangria can keep overnight in the fridge, and some say it is better to be made in advance in any case - but it doesn't last long in my house!

Punch
Anything goes! However, here is what we threw into a bucket for a killer punch which tasted great - and hit hard! Ideal for parties.
  • 1 litre white rum
  • 1 litre vodka
  • 1 litre pimms
  • 3 litres orange juice
  • 1 litre grapefruit juice
  • 1 small bottle lemon juice
  • 1/2 small bottle lime juice
