Glastonbury Festival 2005 - Friday
On Friday I was woken at 0537 by thunder. I went to the toilet and as I came back the rain fell... and fell... The storm continued for about five hours, with torrential rain (a month's rain in one day) and lightning all around (striking areas of the site on all sides of us). This was a very freak storm, luckily we were dry in the disabled campsite but others had their tents washed away.

The rain on our tent (seen from inside) was an ominous sign.

Drops raced down the tent opposite ours.

This poor lass went to the toilets in pink wellies and a cream waterproof - no sense of style!

After eleven, the sun came out... and so did Mike. Just a few feet out of the porch and onto a blanket.

Mohican Man's stall, Cut the Mustard, was rained out.

The Other Stage, looking soggy.

People were using the viewing platforms which meant disabled users had no access to them. I complained, only to find they weren't stewarded because the access ramps hadn't been built yet so they weren't accessible anyway...

Mud in front of the Crown bar, which had to be crossed to reach the Railway track. The Railway was cordoned off from the Other to the Glade (i.e. the bottom of Pennards field) and there were four fire engines attending.

A muddy footprint. When I took this, I didn't think it would get much worse. Oops. It didn't get damper, but the more people walked on it, the more it became churned up and sticky.

Finally made it to the Silver Service Restaurant in Lost Vagueness for dinner at 6pm as planned. The band were good... and on the right is a boarder, Boghopper - what EXACTLY is he doing?!

Mike's starter, a bean, carrot and radish salad with soft boiled egg.

My main course, baby artichokes with caramelised shallots in a light dressing.

And our puddings - Mike had trifle, I had chocolate marquise with cherries. It was £30 a head for three courses, and £15 a bottle of wine, although they only had white.

Boghopper's lovely bride (for he had "married" her outside Lost Vagueness chapel before coming for dinner). She looks somewhat resolute.

Mike took this photo of me. Hurrumph.

Boghopper and the missus - awwww!

The Chapel in Lost Vagueness. As it had been hit by lightning, it was closed until Health and Safety could inspect it. (I've never seen it open! Boo!)

Walking back through the tipi field. These people were burning an exceptionally large log.

Back home... Mike is back on his blanket outside the tent... back to sleep!
On to Saturday...
